In the winter consider adding a cozy faux fur or cable knit throw, and in the summer try something lighter and brighter. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, but good quality goes a long way in upping your décor ante.
Green is one of the easiest colors to decorate with. Why? Because despite the fact that it lives on the color wheel, green can act as a neutral. Try pairing various shades of green with just about any other color and you'll find the combination can work beautifully. Green is also a relaxing color that is associated with nature and wellness, meaning that green rooms tend to make us feel good. With all these positive qualities, it's no wonder there are so many examples of beautiful green living rooms.
Empty walls are a sign of an incomplete room. This doesn’t mean you need to fill every inch, but decorating the walls with art is important. (Note that it is important, but it does not need to be expensive). What one person considers art can vary drastically from another’s so it’s important to follow your instincts when it comes to what you like and what will go in your room. That said, there are a lot of rules that are worth following if you want your room to look its best.
Using area rugs is a great way to define seating areas, but the number one mistake people make in the living room is using an area rug that's too small. Remember that all of the furniture should be able to comfortably sit on the carpet. If space doesn't allow it, make sure that at least the front legs of any large upholstered pieces are on the rug. (Small pieces like side chairs and tables should always have all four legs on the rug.)
